Worley-Parsons

Chariot Solutions' successful implementation and training has helped ensure the end customer's long-term happiness with BEA WebLogic.

In any business today, a fluid and efficient flow of business documents is critical for success. Relying on manual or ad-hoc content sharing can trap information in business silos and create costly delays as employees attempt to locate or re-create critical information. Add the complexity and economic burden of managing content in a regulatory environment, and the challenge becomes even more apparent. Consider an internationally recognized firm that manages engineering and construction for energy and chemical plants. The company has designed and constructed more than 250 gas processing plants, 600 chemical and petrochemical projects and 370 power plants worldwide. Information sharing is critical to the firm's global business. Aware of the importance of managing content proactively and efficiently, the firm purchased Documentum, a leading enterprise-content management system.

Challenge

Documentum was the ideal software solution for the firm's content management needs. However, the company questioned whether its current open-source application server would scale effectively once Documentum was pushed into production. The firm needed to decide whether to replace the existing server all together or invest in improvements to the legacy system. BEA, a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, was called for consultation.

BEA was confident Documentum could run with ease if the firm purchased BEA WebLogic. As the market leading application server for years, WebLogic is well known for its best of breed scalability, reliability and standards compliance. BEA knew WebLogic would work. The challenge was to prove it - and quickly.

The Solution

Knowing time was of the essence, Worley-Parsons called Chariot Solutions, long-time BEA partner and a leading provider of Java-based application architecture and software development services.

At Worley-Parsons's request, Chariot's architects immediately assessed the situation by conference call, and a lead architect from Chariot arrived on site at the firm's headquarters the following day.

Within 24 hours of the initial phone call to Worley-Parsons, Chariot Solutions had installed WebLogic on four central processors and was able to prove Documentum's superior performance on the new server. The actual installation and migration took only three hours.

In addition to proving WebLogic's viability both quickly and efficiently, Chariot Solutions spent time training employees on the intricacies of the system and answering both technical and business related questions.

"Not only did our architects implement WebLogic efficiently, but they built customer confidence in the system as well," said Tracey Welson-Rossman, director of business development for Chariot Solutions. "The architects were able to provide a better overall understanding of the product and knowledge of how to monitor, configure, trouble shoot and performance tune WebLogic. The client has repeatedly expressed their belief that we didn't quit at a product sale - but instead delivered a total business solution."

The Results

Based on the successful trial implementation and training, Worley-Parsons decided to purchase WebLogic and has since purchased additional licenses. Chariot Solutions worked with Agilysys, a leading solutions distributor of BEA technology, to acquire WebLogic and secure competitive pricing.

As a result, Worley-Parsons now has a scalable open-application server on which to run Documentum, and is able to share information efficiently throughout the organization. Customers and employees alike benefit from the fluid exchange of information and rapid content retrieval, and the company can rest confident that the solution will scale for customer and business growth.

"Our ability to respond to Worley-Parsons's request immediately not only ensured that the sale was closed for BEA, but also helped ensure the end customer's long-term happiness with WebLogic," said Welson-Rossman. "We look forward to providing the highest level of customer service as future needs arise."
